Shizuoka Prefecture – Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival
Go See the Early-Blooming Kawazu Cherry Blossoms!
Kawazu cherry trees are a type of cherry tree found in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Kawazu. Every year, they bloom for about a month from early February to early March. They have a variety of characteristics that set them apart from the usual Yoshino cherry trees that are found all across Japan: Kawazu cherry trees have larger flowers with a darker pink color, they bloom earlier, and their period of blooming long, around a month.
Many people visit Kawazu every year to see the early-blooming cherry blossoms.

There is a flower-viewing walking course around 3 kilometers long along the Kawazu River, on which you can enjoy a beautiful collaboration between the cherry blossoms and yellow rape flowers. During the blooming period, the path is illuminated from 18:00 until 21:00. Around 150 food stalls are also set up, so you can enjoy food and drink along with the cherry blossoms.
