This is a Matcha flavored version of the popular Mochi shokkan roll cake sold by Lawson Convenience store! This time they further evolved the filling.
You will find Kinako flavored whipped cream and Kuromitsu (Molasses) wrapped with a Matcha flavored sponge cake! The molasses is made using brown sugar from Okinawa.
Have you ever heard of Kinako? It can be translated literally as yellow powder, it is in fact roasted soy bean powder. It gives a nice roasted flavor when added to sweets. I love Kinako, so I really needed to try this dessert.
No time to waste! Opened it up right away!
First thing I saw was the vivid color of the green sponge cake. As shown on the package, the Kuromitsu looks nice’n thick!
The cake was so moist and chewy compared to ordinary roll cakes.
I noticed the mild scent of Kinako.
It’s was so good~! The textures of the sponge cake with the smooth Kinako whipped cream puts this on another level.
The Mathca was very mild, and it wasn't bitter at all.
The caramelized taste of brown sugar accentuate the whole dessert.
It’s sweet and rich but thanks to the Matcha it didn’t feel very heavy, it’s actually rather refreshing.
Once you start, you can not stop.
It was my first time eating Kinako whipped cream, and it is so good!
I hope Lawson will use this whipped cream in different dessert products in the future.
