Hakodate is a melting pot of various countries’ cultures thanks to its status as an international trade port. Come visit the area’s popular winter event, “Hakodate Christmas Fantasy”! A large Christmas tree from Canada, reaching almost 20 meters high, will be featured at the Port of Hakodate! The tree and the entire surrounding area of the city are beautifully illuminated, creating a fantastical scene.

The “momi fir” tree travels around 18,000 kilometers across the Pacific Ocean from Halifax, Canada to reach Hakodate. The momi fir is then decorated in Hakodate, ushering Christmas cheer and atmosphere to the city.
Every day around 6:00pm there is a lighting ceremony for the tree, and there are even fireworks set off! Additionally, there are plenty of fun events to enjoy, primarily on the weekends.
