Den-en-chofu, a Garden City Adorned with Ginkgoes
Renowned as an upscale residential street, Den-en-chofu is a street located in the western tip of Ota and adjacent to the southern tip of Setagaya in Tokyo.
If you want to view ginkgoes in Tokyo, but dislike the crowdedness of popular spots such as Jingu Gaien or Tokyo University, Den-en-chofu in Tokyo’s Ota is a good and quiet place for appreciating the beauty of ginkgoes.
Den-en-chofu, at the next station of Jiyugaoka Station, is a famous exclusive residential neighborhood in Tokyo. Originally planned to be developed into a garden suburb with ideal residential neighborhoods, the street is characterized by high housing prices, many celebrities and great serenity.
The avenues are laid out around Den-en-chofu Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line like the strokes of a wheel, and all planted with tall ginkgo trees in orderly lines.
Ginkgo leaves are yellowing from late October to mid-November, when it is the best time for viewing ginkgoes.
As this street is rarely visited by tourists, there are more chances to take wonderful photos of ginkgoes on empty streets. Nearby Jiyugaoka can also be included in your itinerary, and it is pleasant to have afternoon tea at Jiyugaoka after viewing ginkgoes here.
