Saying Thank You (often used between young people)

young Japanese people

#1 あざーす! / Azaasu!

This is an abbreviated form of “arigatou gozaimasu.”
Using this removes any tones of politeness, but its informality can serve to express compassion and familiarity between friends.

#2 まじありがとう! / Maji arigatou!

This phrase roughly equates to “arigatou gozaimasu.” It carries the implication of “you really helped me out!” “Maji” is a word made up by young people that is roughly equivalent to “hontou ni.” It is not part of standardized Japanese, but nowadays many people use it, not just younger people. It is especially often used by men. It is not a polite way to speak, but it is used fairly often.

Finally, if you are speaking on official behalf, you can use “kansha shimasu.”(感謝します) For the most part, this phrase is only used in writing.
