What kind of destination is Abashiri?
Abashiri is a city located in the “Dōtō” region, the eastern part of Hokkaido.
By May, as the snow melts away, plants begin to sprout, and the quiet winter landscape transforms into a vibrant scene green glittering energy.

Even in June and beyond, expect easy travel planning thanks to extra clear, dry days and no rainy season unlike many places you may know in the main Honshu areas of Japan.

When it comes to Abashiri, it’s all about the “bounty of the Sea of Okhotsk.”
The spring season is when the drift ice melts, and the rich plankton trapped within it is released into the sea, becoming food for fish and shellfish. This turns Abashiri’s waters into an exceptionally fertile fishing ground almost overnight.
That’s why seafood from the Okhotsk region is especially prized for its remarkable flavor, even among Hokkaido’s many delicacies.
