Taishoan Kamahalu Main Store
A long-running shop often said to be the birthplace of kama-age udon.
A renowned udon shop founded in the mid-Meiji era, often said to be the birthplace of “kama-age udon.” Using its own original udon flour, the noodles are carefully kneaded with the water and salt levels adjusted daily to match the temperature and humidity. Fresh noodles are made each day, with every effort to serve them just-made.
The signature “kama-age udon” is a perfect match of hot, chewy noodles and flavorful dashi broth. You’ll also find plenty of variations, such as “tororo kama-age udon” and “tempura kama-age udon.” Another specialty is “Hatcho miso nikomi udon,” made with a different original noodle designed to hold up well during simmering.
On the first floor, you’ll find table seating and raised tatami-style seats. Upstairs are a large hall and private rooms, making it easy to dine comfortably even with a big group. They also sell take-home items and souvenirs, so be sure to take a look.
