Chaya Usaburo

A nostalgic countryside restaurant in the satoyama foothills of the Nasu Highlands. In a character-filled old farmhouse with a large irori hearth and an engawa veranda, you can enjoy handmade okowa (sticky rice), freshly pounded mochi, and seasonal homestyle dishes.

They use safe, delicious glutinous rice grown by local farmers—essential for making okowa and mochi. With a menu centered on locally harvested, in-season ingredients, you’ll get to enjoy nature’s bounty to the fullest.

The most popular menu item at “Usaburo” is the Pokopen Set. It’s a hearty set that lets you try the restaurant’s signature dishes all at once: okowa, kenchin udon, and anko mochi. Other favorites include the Usaburo Set, which comes with two types of okowa (seasonal okowa and gomoku okowa), and the Onago Set, perfect if you want to sample a little bit of everything. In addition to the regular menu, don’t miss limited-time seasonal specials, like winter-only rice porridge and summer-only chilled udon.
