Mysterious Boys and Girls Museum
Museum for retro memorabilia where an unbeatable mystique fills the air.
This quirky museum features an extensive array of retro toys, memorabilia, and costumes, predominantly from Japan's Showa era. Its exterior resembles an old-fashioned elementary school, complete with a striking, giant penguin statue wearing a top hat that stands prominently outside, immediately setting the whimsical and mysterious tone.
Once inside you’ll find an eyebrow-raising, densely-packed collection organized by theme. The first floor showcases mannequins dressed in popular fashion from the Meiji to Showa eras, nostalgic toys and dolls, and an extensive display of idol records and posters. The second floor is dedicated to occult and horror memorabilia, as well as a special corner featuring works from internationally renowned Japanese creators.
Adjacent to the main building is the "Night School”, a separate building offering a spooky, haunted-house-style exploration of a creepy nighttime school environment. Those who dare to go in will happen upon a full comradery of interactive figures activated by motion sensors, jumping out with hair-raising thrill.
The museum also has two sister institutions in Ito City—"Maboroshi Museum" and "Cat Museum"—both unique attractions with dedicated followings. Visitors are encouraged to explore these fascinating spots if time allows.
