Kibagata Park
An outdoor-packed destination, the prefecture’s only natural waterside park.
Ishikawa’s only natural waterside park welcomes Approx. 800,000 visitors a year and spans around 49.1 hectares. The park’s four areas are connected by a 6.4 km loop path, so you can make the full circuit of the former lagoon “Kibagata,” which took shape Approx. 5,300 years ago.
“Kibagata” is home to aquatic plants such as grasses and trees, and endangered species like gagabuta, water chestnut varieties, and asaza, and many wild birds visit. With Mt. Hakusan rising in the background, it’s an ideal setting to enjoy time in nature. The canoe racing course built on the lagoon is also the real deal, with 9 lanes and a 1,000-meter course. It has even hosted Olympic Asia regional qualifiers, earning worldwide recognition.
There’s more to enjoy, including a “nagashibune” boat ride (reservation required) for a relaxed water stroll on a hand-rowed boat for 20 minutes, a park golf course that anyone from beginners to advanced players can enjoy casually, and a dog run divided into three sections where small, medium, and large dogs can play safely—making the park’s outdoor lineup a welcome bonus.
In 2023, a new satoyama zone opened with the aim of becoming “a model for a new kind of satoyama restoration.” Through seminars and hands-on programs, the park regularly hosts events where you can learn about the SDGs.
