Junigataki Falls
Delicate cherry blossoms blooming beside a waterfall that cascades down in 12 streams.
Near the midstream area of the “Gotani River,” which flows along National Route 416, one of Komatsu City’s main roads, the water splits into 12 streams as it cascades down with a roaring sound-an impressive sight. The waterfall is Approx. 36 m wide. From April to June, when snowmelt from the mountains pours in, higher water levels make the falls even more powerful.
In most years, from late March to early April, the cherry trees planted along the embankment are in full bloom, creating an even more charming view. It’s a bit outside the city center and known mostly to locals as a hidden cherry-blossom spot, so on weekdays you can often enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace with relatively few visitors.
After cherry blossom season, a popular local event is held to celebrate Children’s Day on May 5, when carp streamers are hung in the sky above the falls. The colorful streamers, donated mainly by locals, swim energetically in the early-summer sunshine—well worth seeing.
