Discover the charm of Kutani ware in an atmospheric shop set in a renovated traditional Japanese house.
Step into the world of Kutani ware—one of Ishikawa Prefecture’s signature traditional crafts—known for its bold style painted in five Japanese pigments: green, yellow, red, purple, and deep blue. With a history of Approx. 360 years, the tradition continues here at this shop run by Kaburaki Shop, one of the kilns that helps protect it while sharing its appeal.
Inside, an antique chandelier hangs over impressive beams reclaimed from an old traditional house. The lineup for sale spans everything from fine art pieces to everyday tableware. A few items by Living National Treasures are also on display and for sale, so it’s well worth dropping in even if you’re just browsing.
The shop is also known for reasonably priced items that make easy souvenirs. Take a look at vessels created by members of the Kutani creative group “Kutani Juku,” along with Kaburaki Shop’s original brand made by up-and-coming young female artisans.
On nice days, the outdoor space hosts the “Mini Chawan Festival.” Set up like a flea market, it offers special pricing—and it’s fun to pick up pieces as you go and get a closer feel for Kutani ware.
