Shitsurindo Flagship Store

The story here starts in Echizen, where lacquerware has been made since around the 6th century. Shitsurindo has carried that tradition forward since 1793. Step inside and you can browse classic pieces, then pick up and look closely at items that feel refreshingly different from traditional lacquerware.

When most people think of lacquerware, black and red are the standard colors. Shitsurindo offers three original brands: “aisomo cosomo,” which refreshes that image with playful, pop colors; “Shitsurindo,” which preserves tradition while focusing on everyday practicality and ease of use; and “RIN&CO.,” a line of lacquerware and lifestyle goods that’s dishwasher-safe—once considered taboo. The store is filled with items that protect tradition while embracing something new.

A workshop is located in the same facility as the shop. With an advance reservation, you can tour the production process of lacquerware (paid). It’s a rare opportunity to see Japan’s traditional craftsmanship up close—and even try it for yourself.
