Nihondaira is a hilly area at an elevation of 307 meters and was once ranked No. 1 in the Japan Tourist Spot Top 100. The Nihondaira Ropeway connects its summit with Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, a historic site associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The line is 1,065 m long, and the ride takes Approx. 5 minutes. Below, you can see the sheer cliffs of Byobudani Valley and the Kuno Coast along Suruga Bay, making it especially popular during the fresh greenery of spring and the fall foliage season. On clear days, you can also spot Omaezaki Cape and the Izu Peninsula.

During the ride, a guide rides along and shares information about the area’s geography and history. Pets are also allowed if they are carried in a carrier case.

Service is operated with two ropeway cars, the “Aoi-go” and “Tachibana-go,” and each can carry up to 47 passengers.
