Gifu Sekigahara Battlefield Memorial Museum

A facility where you can experience the history of the Battle of Sekigahara-famous as Japan’s decisive showdown-through all five senses.

Last update :

The Edo shogunate lasted for Approx. 260 years, and its starting point is the Battle of Sekigahara, famed as Japan’s decisive showdown. This facility opened in 2020 so visitors can experience a pivotal moment from that history-changing battle fought in Sekigahara, Gifu Prefecture.

Inside, you’ll find immersive, awe-inspiring installations, including “Ground Vision,” a floor screen that clearly explains the lead-up to the Battle of Sekigahara and the scale of the conflict, as well as a “Theater” that recreates the battle with a powerful sense of realism.

In the exhibition rooms, you can learn more about the Battle of Sekigahara through materials unique to Sekigahara, such as armor, weapons, and old documents, and from the 5th-floor observation room you can take in a panoramic view of the Sekigahara battlefield, including the encampment sites of various warlords.

The facility also offers bicycle rentals. With options like electric-assist bikes and kids’ bikes, even families can enjoy touring the Sekigahara battlefield and nearby historic sites by cycling. Seven symbolic battlefield routes are available—so as you make your way around the Sekigahara battlefield, take in the stories of the famed commanders of the Battle of Sekigahara (the Seven Warlords of Sekigahara).

At the annex shop and restaurant, you’ll find plenty of Sekigahara-themed dishes and souvenirs. After enjoying the museum, it’s well worth a stop.
