Located on the outskirts of Sapporo, Nishino Shrine is slated to celebrate its 140th anniversary in 2025. The shrine’s architecture features traditional Shinmei-zukuri style, where the worship hall is connected to both the main and offering halls. Three deities are enshrined here: Toyotama-hime no Mikoto, Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto, and Hondawake no Mikoto.

Nishino Shrine is widely known as one of Sapporo’s most powerful spiritual spots, attracting worshippers from all over Hokkaido and beyond.
The main deity, Toyotama-hime, is associated with a miraculous romantic union, making the shrine particularly renowned for blessings related to safe childbirth and matchmaking—rare qualities for a shrine in Hokkaido.
Near the shrine building stands a monument commemorating its 120th anniversary, featuring statues of a dog and her puppies—symbols of safe delivery.
To pray for fertility, gently rub the parent dog in the center; for safe childbirth, touch the puppy bearing your future child’s zodiac sign. Rubbing the puppy with your own zodiac sign is also said to bring good health.

Nishino Shrine is also famous for its incredible variety of omikuji (fortune slips), offering around 300 different kinds. Visitors can choose based on the blessing or design that best suits them.
The surrounding sacred forest provides a peaceful escape with fresh air and beautiful scenery that changes with the seasons—perfect for a tranquil stroll after your visit.
