Sunaba Coffee Shin Tottori Ekimae Branch
Famed coffee roasted with sand from the Tottori Sand Dunes.
When Tottori Prefecture famously became the only prefecture in Japan without a Starbucks, Governor Shinji Hirai humorously remarked, We don't have Starbucks, but we have Sunaba ('sandpit'). Inspired by this, a local business opened the first Sunaba Coffee in 2014. Although that original shop closed temporarily in 2019, it reopened later that same year in a new location near Tottori Station as the Shin Tottori Ekimae Shop.
Their signature Sunayaki Coffee uses Brazilian coffee beans roasted with sand from the Tottori Sand Dunes. Brewed carefully using the siphon method, the coffee offers a smooth, balanced flavor with a pleasant bitterness and a clean finish. The café offers a diverse drink menu, including the four-country original Sunaba Coffee Special Blend and café au lait made with local Daisen milk. The owner's commitment to personally visiting coffee-producing regions to select beans reflects the shop’s dedication to quality.
Besides morning sets, the café provides a range of food options such as medicinal curry made from locally sourced Daisen herb chicken and the popular Sunaba Dog. Sweets lovers can enjoy waffles, parfaits, and other delightful treats.
