Taishaku Gorge
Experience mystical, breathtaking scenery sculpted entirely by nature.
Taishaku Gorge is an approximately 18 km-long valley extending across Shobara City and Jinsekikogen Town in Hiroshima Prefecture. Located within Hiba-Dogo-Taishaku Quasi-National Park, it is recognized as a National Scenic Site and is celebrated as one of the top 100 scenic views in Japan. The gorge is divided into two main areas, Kami-Taishaku and Shinryuko Lake, each offering numerous scenic attractions.
The Kami-Taishaku area features a karst plateau created over thousands of years by limestone erosion, offering mystical landscapes including the limestone cave Hakuundo, and the impressive 8-meter-high cave gate known as Oni-no-Karamon (Devil’s Gate). A particularly famous site is Onbashi Bridge, Japan's largest natural limestone bridge, measuring 90 meters long and 40 meters high.
Shinryuko Lake, formed by Taishakugawa Dam, provides a scenic setting for activities such as sightseeing cruises and canoeing, allowing visitors to closely observe the spectacular cliffs, unique rock formations, and ever-changing landscapes of the valley.
Another charm of Taishaku Gorge is its vibrant seasonal beauty, from fresh greenery in spring to stunning autumn foliage, making it a rewarding destination year-round.
