Hokuhara Primeval Flower Garden
In this vast primeval flower garden overlooking the Sea of Okhotsk, Approx. 100 kinds of flowers bloom in full glory.
This nature-rich primeval flower garden spans Approx. 75 hectares along the Sea of Okhotsk in Nemuro. It’s located near Nokkamappu Cape on the way from downtown Nemuro to Cape Nosappu, so it’s a great place to stop during a drive. About 2 kilometers of boardwalks run through the park, allowing you to walk through the wetlands while observing a wide variety of plants.
Approx. 100 types of flowers can be seen in the park, and from early June to early August, iris setosa, Nemuro dandelions, Ezokanzo (daylilies), and bellflowers bloom in full glory. The large colonies of iris setosa, which are at their best from late June to mid-July, are especially stunning. A few ponies are also left to graze in the park for weed control, and you may be able to see their adorable 모습 as they eat grass in the meadows.
Another highlight is the Quercus crispula wind-swept forest, designated as a Natural Monument of Nemuro City. The magical scenery created by trunks twisted and bent in complex ways under strong winds blowing in from the Nemuro Strait is a must-see.
