Sunset Beach (Himakajima Island)

Just steps from Himakajima West Port, the gateway to Himakajima, this beach sits on a small remote island with a circumference of Approx. 5.5 km off the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture. It is called Sunset Beach for the beautiful sunsets seen beyond the mainland.

This open sandy beach, stretching Approx. 200 m long and Approx. 30 m deep, opens as a swimming beach every July and August. Although there are no beach huts, lifeguards are on duty, and first-aid facilities, free showers, and restrooms are available, so you can enjoy your time here with peace of mind.

From late May to the end of September, dolphin interaction events are held here. You can enjoy close-up performances such as clapping and jumping, and even touch their backs, making this a chance to feel closer to dolphins than at an aquarium. It is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face!

The surrounding area is dotted with places to eat and souvenir shops, along with plenty of sights such as an octopus monument and a police box designed like an octopus. Be sure to try the local seafood, especially the island’s famous octopus and fugu. It is also worth visiting Sunrise Beach at East Port, known for its beautiful sunrise.
