Shigisan Kanko Hotel

A hidden retreat at the foot of Mt. Shigi, known for its natural hot spring and seasonal Japanese kaiseki dinners.

This hot spring inn on Mt. Shigi in Ikoma District, Nara Prefecture, is known for having the only natural hot spring on the mountain. From the large public bath and open-air bath, you can look out over the Shigi mountain range and enjoy a relaxing soak amid grand seasonal scenery, from cherry blossoms to autumn leaves. During cherry blossom season in particular, the trees are so close that petals drift into the open-air bath, creating an atmospheric hot spring experience.

Dinner features a creative Japanese kaiseki course centered on seasonal ingredients. The menu is filled with Nara flavors, including Narazuke pickles, Nara-grown Hinohikari rice, and Yamato beef, one of Nara’s branded wagyu varieties. Depending on the season, you may be able to choose one of the dishes or select a non-kaiseki option such as a hot pot meal.

There are 42 guest rooms in total across the main building and annex. Most are Japanese-style rooms full of traditional charm, though Japanese-Western rooms and rooms with beds designed for Japanese-style spaces are also available. The hotel also offers day-use plans that combine a kaiseki lunch served in a guest room with a day-trip hot spring visit, making it suitable for a variety of occasions.
