Kurima Bridge
A popular driving spot offering breathtaking views of the beautiful turquoise sea below.
Completed in 1995, Kurima Bridge is a 1,690-meter-long agricultural road bridge connecting Miyako Island and Kurima Island. It is one of the longest bridges of its kind in Japan. Because ships pass beneath it, the bridge rises gently in the middle, creating its distinctive arched shape.
Kurima Bridge is also famous for its breathtaking views. From the bridge, the color of the sea changes with the angle of sunlight, creating a mesmerizing gradient of blues and greens. The nearby Yonaha Maehama Beach, with its pure white sand and emerald-green waters, offers one of the most photogenic scenes on Miyako Island-an absolute must for photographers and sightseers alike.
The bridge can be crossed not only by car but also on foot or by bicycle, making it perfect for those who wish to take their time enjoying the scenery.
Across the bridge on Kurima Island, you’ll find several scenic viewpoints, including the Ryugujo Observation Deck, inspired by the mythical Dragon Palace, as well as Matsu-no-Ki Observation Deck and Kurima Rural Park, all offering spectacular views of the bridge and the surrounding ocean. For the best panoramic views of the brilliant blue sea and the graceful curve of the bridge, head to one of these lookout spots.
