Supervised by :  Hankai Tramway Co.,Ltd.

Hankai Tramway connects Osaka City and Sakai City and is the only streetcar system in Osaka, boasting a history of more than 120 years.

The network consists of two lines: the Hankai Line, which runs from Ebisucho to Hamadera-ekimae, and the Uemachi Line, connecting Tennoji-ekimae and Sumiyoshi. Both lines pass through urban areas, residential neighborhoods, and the gates of temples and shrines, allowing passengers to experience the character of each district up close as they travel.

Fares are a flat rate across the entire system. An unlimited one-day pass, known as the “Take Take ticket,” is also available, making it convenient for sightseeing and leisurely exploration of the area.

In addition to its retro classic cars, the tramway operates ultra-low-floor vehicles known as the Sakai Tram (Series 1001). Featuring a calm design inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics and enhanced barrier-free access, these trams are designed to be easy for passengers of all ages to use.

Along the route are historic and cultural landmarks such as Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine and Hamadera Park, adding to the tramway’s appeal not just as local transportation, but as an enjoyable way to explore the city itself.
