Mt. Shiude

Enjoy sweeping views of the calm Seto Inland Sea-one of Kagawa’s most scenic viewpoints.

Last update :

A 1,155-foot mountain on the Shonai Peninsula in Mitoyo City, Kagawa. Follow the nature-rich walking trails to the summit, and breathtaking Seto Inland Sea views open up right in front of you. From the summit observatory, look east for a stunning panorama of countless islands, or look west for calm waters with few island silhouettes and views stretching to the Chugoku region.

In spring, delicate cherry blossoms reach full bloom, and in early summer, colorful hydrangeas brighten the mountain, along with other seasonal flowers. The contrast between vibrant blooms and the sweeping Seto Inland Sea scenery is unforgettable. It has also drawn attention in recent years after being featured by outlets like The New York Times and the online edition of France’s Le Figaro as a must-see scenic spot in Japan.

Near the summit observatory are the ruins of a Yayoi-period hilltop settlement, and the Shiudeyama Ruins Museum, which exhibits pottery and stone tools from Approx. 2,000 years ago. The museum also has a cafe corner where you can enjoy zenzai (sweet red bean soup) and original Shiudeyama drinks while taking in the spectacular view.
