Among Japan's three major Chinatowns—Kobe Nankinmachi, Nagasaki Shinchi, and Yokohama—Yokohama Chinatown is the largest. It's always packed with visitors and has tons of authentic Chinese food. After eating, you can take a stroll at the nearby Yamashita Park to walk it off.

You can watch ships coming and going in the harbor and even see the Bay Bridge in the distance. The park is also a great spot for a walk and taking photos.

  • These traditional buildings have been preserved from ancient times and haven't been spoiled by commercialism.

The super-fast elevator takes you smoothly straight up to the Tembo Deck at 350 meters. The lower deck tends to be more crowded, so if you have time, it's worth heading up to the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters.

With over 300 shops, it's a great place to explore and shop. Definitely a popular new spot.

Each pirate ship has its own unique theme, and the decorations and seats are really classic.

Lots of Japanese and foreign visitors wear kimonos here, which really adds a special touch.

  • This is a high-end inn. Besides the great food, hot springs, and accommodations, the hotel also offers traditional entertainment shows. It was a fantastic stay.

  • You really need to go up to the observation deck to get a clear view of Japan's very first Western-style castle. Totally worth it!

  • It's right in the city center, close to department stores and near Tanukikoji. There's even an underground walkway below that connects to the train station.

  • When I arrived, there were already a bunch of professional photographers with their tripods set up, waiting for a long time. It was super windy and cold at the top, so you definitely need to bring a jacket.

  • During flower season, there's even a nighttime light-up event. You can also enjoy the Chichibu night view from the top of the mountain. The cable car runs until 7 p.m., but it gets seriously cold up there.

  • The whole mountain is covered in Shirley poppies—it's an amazing sight.

  • The massive wall of icicles is absolutely stunning and breathtaking. There's so much to take in, it's almost overwhelming.

  • Every hour, the central plaza's space music box plays beautiful tunes. It's a lovely touch!

You can pick up a free Chinese map at the visitor center, which is super helpful if you have trouble with directions. It really helps you avoid getting lost.
