These towels are provided free of charge at most restaurants. They are lightly dampened and rolled up before being presented. In the winter they are often heated, while they are often cool during the summer. A disposable paper variety of towels are often used at fast food restaurants and cheaper eateries. Izakaya and high-end restaurants also may have their employees deliver the towels to you directly. These hand towels are originally a Japanese service, but they are also growing in popularity overseas.
