Osaka’s Classic Souvenir: Freshly Made Delights and How to Enjoy Aokishofuan’s Milk Manju Tsukigesho
A familiar sight at shops in train stations and airports, Aokishofuan’s Milk Manju Tsukigesho is one of Osaka’s signature confections and a beloved classic. With its gentle sweetness and Japanese-Western harmony, this standout sweet is delicious precisely because it is carefully baked with a focus on being “freshly made,” without making batches in advance.
At Tsukigesho Namba Store, a popular style of service lets you enjoy freshly baked Milk Manju Tsukigesho on the spot, finished in a commercial oven. It has also become a hot topic as a souvenir that lets you “experience it freshly made.”
What Is Osaka’s Classic Souvenir, Milk Manju Tsukigesho?
Total cumulative sales have surpassed 160 million pieces. Today, Milk Manju Tsukigesho is so well-known that it is often one of the very first names mentioned when people think of “Osaka souvenirs.”
This signature sweet is made by Aokishofuan, a long-established Japanese and Western confectionery brand that drew attention from overseas through its presence at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Its delicious secret lies in the house-made milk bean paste made with white kidney beans from Hokkaido.
In addition, Aokishofuan has an order-based production system at its in-house factory, which operates on weekends and holidays as well, and is committed to being “freshly made” without making batches in advance. Since Tsukigesho Namba Store opened on Namba’s main street in Osaka in July 2017, the “freshly made experience” has been hugely popular.

Freshly Baked Tsukigesho at Namba Store
On a Namba street corner, you can encounter the toasty sweetness of Tsukigesho fresh from the oven. Take a moment between sightseeing and shopping to check out a texture and flavor you can only enjoy here.
Only Tsukigesho Namba Store Lets You Savor It Freshly Baked!
Tsukigesho Namba Store is the only place in Japan where you can enjoy freshly baked Milk Manju Tsukigesho.
Inside, the shop has an attached workshop centered around a commercial oven. Once the dough is set, it’s baked at the specified temperature for about 10 minutes, and piping-hot Milk Manju Tsukigesho is ready.

Unlike the regular version packaged for souvenirs with its moist and creamy deliciousness, the freshly baked version offers an exquisite harmony of crisp and melty textures. The gently sweet aroma of the house-made milk bean paste is irresistible.

This smash-hit item, said to sell out at about 900 to 1,000 pieces a day on average, is also easy to try at just 160 yen each. You can sit on the benches inside and enjoy it with complimentary Japanese tea, or take it to go as you stroll around the neighborhood. Savor the appeal of freshly baked Tsukigesho to your heart’s content in your own style.

In the shop’s sales area, Aokishofuan’s popular souvenirs are lined up and ready for you. In addition to limited-time flavors of Milk Manju Tsukigesho, you can also purchase Tsukigesho Raw Sablé, whose soft texture and milky flavor are reminiscent of Tsukigesho.

Right in the Heart of Namba, Easy to Drop by between Sightseeing Stops
Tsukigesho Namba Store is located right in the middle of the Namba area. With restaurants, souvenir shops, and cafes all around, the nearby area includes long-standing shopping streets and bustling spots popular with tourists.
It is an easy-to-understand location even for first-time visitors to Osaka, with convenient access from Namba Station and Osaka-Namba Station on multiple lines.

Look for the massive signboard measuring 2 meters in diameter. At the storefront, you will also see an eye-catching display that says, “Freshly baked available.” Crowds visit in large numbers on both weekdays and weekends, and lines often form depending on the time of day, but freshly baked Milk Manju Tsukigesho is continuously prepared, so the wait is relatively short.

More Than Shopping: Enjoy a Factory Tour at Tsukigesho Factory
How about taking a peek at the secrets behind the deliciousness of Milk Manju Tsukigesho, wrapped in a softly sweet aroma? At Tsukigesho Factory, factory tours that everyone from kids to adults can enjoy are extremely popular.
A Factory Tour at Tsukigesho Factory That Reveals the “Behind-the-Scenes” of Freshly Made
In 2025, Tsukigesho Factory surpassed a total of 500,000 visitors. With no reservation required and free admission, it is a spot where tourists from all over Japan visit to casually tour the manufacturing process of Milk Manju Tsukigesho.

From the moment you step inside, the building is filled with a sweet aroma, and the highlights include the manufacturing process, a theater introducing the story of Tsukigesho’s creation in a video, and an exhibition area showcasing materials on the history and ingredients of confections. You can have fun learning about Aokishofuan’s dedication to quality.
After touring the manufacturing process, there is also a tasting service featuring freshly made Tsukigesho. The factory tour takes about 30 minutes, so plan for about an hour including shopping at the store.

There are also confectionery classes held by advance reservation (see the official website for details on reservations). Class times are 10:00 am-12:00 pm (Sunday) and 2:00 pm-4:00 pm (Tuesday), and depending on the day, you can make either a cake or a Japanese sweet.
With careful instruction from professional artisans, even beginners can feel comfortable giving it a try. It is also nice that children in elementary school and below are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
After the Tour: Check out Limited Sweets and Souvenirs
At the shop attached to Tsukigesho Factory, Aokishofuan Hannan Store, you will of course find the top-seller Milk Manju Tsukigesho, along with around 100 varieties, including limited items you can only buy here such as Tsukiro Monaka.
In addition to Western-style sweets made with seasonal fruits and ingredients and carefully crafted Japanese sweets, the lineup also includes boxed gift sets that make appreciated presents for someone special. On the second floor, there is an eat-in space where you can enjoy sweets purchased on the first floor right away, and you can also buy drinks and soft-serve ice cream. It is also a nice idea to spend a relaxed moment between shopping.

A New Chocolate-Flavor Tsukigesho Debuts: Check out the New MOON CACAO TSUKIGESHO
MOON CACAO TSUKIGESHO has been created to let you savor the world of high-quality cacao. Head to this new shop, where the refined sweetness of meticulously crafted cacao sweets stands out with a singular presence.
A Milestone First Store Opens Alongside a New Chocolate Brand
In December 2025, MOON CACAO TSUKIGESHO launched as a brand-new concept.
Aokishofuan’s first-ever chocolate specialty shop opened its milestone first store in Kitashinchi, one of Kansai’s premier nightlife districts.

With an exterior design that feels like a high-end jewelry shop, fitting for an area lined with upscale clubs and restaurants, this shop features three core items. The concept is “chocolate that quietly, like the moon, fills your heart.”

MOON CACAO carré
Each thin, carefully crafted piece gently dissolves on your tongue with a delicate and elegant melt. The flavors woven by carefully selected cacao are truly unforgettable.
Under thorough temperature control, three chocolate flavors are painstakingly created: Milk, known for its gentle sweetness and mellow melt; Bitter, marked by cacao’s depth and pleasantly bitter notes; and Matcha, which unfolds with a rich aroma and a distinctly Japanese touch. All are exceptional items that leave a refined lingering finish.

MOON CACAO Petit
Its flat, round form is elegant. The package that wraps Bitter, Milk, and Matcha together in one is also striking. Compact and characterized by a texture that seems to dissolve in your mouth and a refined sweetness, it is also perfect as an easy partner for tea time.

MOON CACAO Tsukigesho
This is a premium version of Milk Manju Tsukigesho. The collaboration of house-made bean paste with a deep, layered flavor, blended with rich chocolate and a deeply flavored dough kneaded with cocoa creates a luxurious taste reminiscent of a chocolate cake.
