At Neo Park Okinawa, visitors can experience colorful birds flying overhead, peacocks blocking the path, and countless ibises gathering all around them.
It is one of northern Okinawa’s leading popular sightseeing spots, offering an extraordinary feeling as if you were exploring the great outdoors overseas.
Its appeal lies in how close visitors can feel to the animals through experiences such as feeding birds, interacting with capybaras, and feeding red pandas.
This article introduces a model course for fully enjoying Neo Park Okinawa, along with ways to enjoy a half-day trip in northern Okinawa where animals and nature bring relaxation.
Anyone who wants to spend special time surrounded by birds and interacting with animals should use this as a helpful guide when planning a trip.

What Kind of Place Is Neo Park Okinawa?

Neo Park Okinawa is an interactive zoological and botanical garden based on the concept of a “zero-distance” experience with animals.
It has one of Japan’s largest flying cages, and its exhibits are designed so that visitors can truly experience the coexistence of people, animals, and plants, with most birds kept in an almost free-roaming environment.
On its vast grounds, about the size of five Tokyo Domes (roughly 235,000 square meters), natural environments inspired by the Amazon, Africa, Oceania, and other regions are recreated using Okinawa’s subtropical climate.
Because visitors can enjoy the overwhelming closeness of the animals and see them in their natural, unposed state, it is loved by a wide range of generations as a classic spot in the Yanbaru area of northern Okinawa.
It is one of Nago City’s representative sightseeing spots and is popular not only with families with children, but also with adults who love animals.

Neo Park Okinawa Tickets and Fees

The admission fee for Neo Park Okinawa is 1,800 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children. (From September 24 to April 24, it is 1,600 yen for adults and 800 yen for children.)
The Animal Interaction Area, where visitors can interact with capybaras, guinea pigs, and dogs, requires a separate admission fee of 400 yen.
Tickets for the red panda feeding experience are sold on a first-come, first-served basis at the Animal Cafe (Red Panda Cafe) on the 2nd floor of Neo Park Okinawa’s Main House, located just up the stairs from the ticket counter.
Each ticket slot costs 300 yen.

3 Reasons Neo Park Okinawa Is Popular

Located in Nago City in northern Okinawa Island, Neo Park Okinawa is an interactive zoological and botanical garden popular for how close visitors can get to the animals.
Here are three reasons why it captivates so many visitors.

1. Visitors Can Experience Animals at an Incredibly Close Distance

The best part of Neo Park Okinawa is, above all, the overwhelming closeness to the animals.
Rather than simply looking at them, visitors can get close, touch them, and feel their warmth, texture, and even breathing, which is one of the major reasons for its popularity.
The sight of birds flying just above your head is full of impact, and directly feeling the energy of nature is an experience unique to Neo Park Okinawa.

In particular, the Animal Interaction Area is popular for experiences that let visitors feel even closer to animals, such as interacting with capybaras and guinea pigs and walking dogs.
At the Bird Performance Show, visitors can also learn about bird ecology and the natural environment of Yanbaru.
In addition, at the Research Center for International Species Conservation, visitors can learn about efforts related to the protection and breeding of rare species.
The chance to deepen understanding of animals and nature while having fun is one of the reasons the park is supported by so many people.
