[Discontinued] Osaka Puchi (Petit) Banana
Banana cream sandwiched between pocket-sized sponge cake. Made at the perfect size and flavor that all generations can’t help but love, this little pastry is easily one of Osaka’s biggest souvenirs.
The Kyoto/Osaka area-born cake that’s traveled all across Japan, as designed by Shinichi Makino, the owner and chef of Monsieur MAKINO patisserie in the Osaka/Hokusetsu area.
The dessert features a soft sponge cake like a short cake, sandwiched around custard cream instead of whipped cream. It’s baked to an aromatic, crisp crust with moist cake inside. The smooth custard cream is filled with pieces of banana and passion fruit.
You can find the cakes sold mostly at gift shop locations at Shin-Osaka Station, Kansai International Airport, Itami Osaka International Airport and more, sold in 5-ct, 9-ct and 14-ct boxes. The cakes are individually wrapped so they’re easy to share as a souvenir and especially loved as a Osaka memento by fans of all generations.
