Takeo Onsen Bussankan

Located about a five-minute drive from JR Nishi-Kyūshū Shinkansen Takeo Onsen Station, this large souvenir shop offers an extensive selection of specialties from the Takeo area. Popular items include Ogi Yōkan, Takeo Onsen Pudding, and Ureshino Tea. Handmade sweets made with local ingredients and seasonal fruits are also available and are very well received.

The “Aijō Yasai Market,” featuring fresh vegetables grown by local farmers around Takeo, is another lively corner of the shop. Farmers deliver their produce directly every morning from 8:30 a.m., ensuring exceptional freshness.

Inside the building is Okkasan no Ichizen Meshi-ya, a self-service eatery where visitors can enjoy simple, comforting home-style dishes. Highlights include soybean rice and gojiru (soybean-based soup) made with high-oleic acid soybeans produced in Takeo. Small side dishes range from 150 to 600 yen, allowing diners to mix and match to create their own set meal. A sweets counter also offers classic soft-serve ice cream and seasonal treats.

Visitors can also enjoy a popular hands-on experience where they paint traditional Takeo wooden whistles shaped like doves or owls. Each participant can create their own unique design, and the finished piece can be taken home as a souvenir.
