Hotel Ohshima is a well-known hot-spring inn in Yunokami Onsen, a classic therapeutic spa area that has drawn visitors since the Edo period. It’s in a prime location just a 1-minute walk from Yunokami Onsen Station on the Aizu Railway, famous for its thatched-roof station building—one of the few of its kind in Japan.

Of the seven guest rooms, the track-side rooms are a favorite for the train views from the window. With trains passing right in front—against spring cherry blossoms or snowy winter scenery—it’s a dream setting for rail fans. On the other hand, the rooms facing the Agagawa River are spacious and can accommodate up to six guests. For bathing, the onsen is fed directly from the source and is praised for its silky, skin-softening feel. There’s also a private open-air bath with sweeping views of the beautiful valley.

Meals feature a generous kaiseki course using seasonal mountain ingredients such as wild vegetables, mushrooms, and river fish. Courses featuring Aizu pork and horse meat are also available. Don’t miss the excellent 100% buckwheat soba—stone-milled from homegrown buckwheat and hand-cut by the owner (reservation required).
