Kaikaro Yokohama Daisekai Branch
A popular spot known for its wide variety of street-style Chinese snacks, including the famous “giant xiaolongbao,” where you sip the rich broth through a straw.
Among the many eateries in Yokohama Chinatown, Kaikaro is one of the most popular spots specializing in authentic, easy-to-eat Chinese street food. This location is the second branch, opened in 2019 inside the commercial complex Yokohama Daisekai.
Its signature item is the giant xiaolongbao, an oversized soup dumpling measuring about 10 cm in diameter-roughly three times the size of a regular xiaolongbao. It’s packed with flavorful, soup-like broth, and the recommended way to enjoy it is to first sip the rich juices through the included straw before biting into the dumpling itself. The giant xiaolongbao also comes in several variations, such as one topped with torched cheddar cheese or another served with a generous helping of shark fin sauce.
Other popular items include the “Xiaolongbao Tasting Set,” which features three flavors-pork, shark fin, and crab miso-and the “Hyakunen Kushi,” a skewer offering four types of shumai inspired by the flavors of a historic, long-loved restaurant. The shop offers a wide range of takeout-friendly Chinese bites.
In summer, seasonal items like Taiwanese shaved ice and Taiwan fruit tea-a refreshing mix of herbal tea and fresh fruit-make an appearance. In the colder months, warming soup dishes are especially popular for taking the chill off.
