Hayakakenuma Park
An urban park developed along the shores of Lake Hayakakenuma, and a popular cherry blossom spot.
An urban park developed on a stretch of land jutting out into Lake Hayakakenuma in Mutsu City, Aomori. The park is planted with cherry blossoms, azaleas, tulips, and maples, and is loved as a relaxing spot for local residents.
It gets especially lively during cherry blossom season and is known as Mutsu City’s top hanami spot. Approx. 400 cherry trees are planted in the park, including Somei Yoshino and double-flowered cherry blossoms, as well as the rare Gyoiko cherry, which blooms in a yellow-green color. Along with “Suigenchi Park,” it also serves as a venue for the “Mutsu Sakura Festival,” with food stalls and shows during the festival. The “Mutsu Sakura Festival” is held every year from late April to early May, around the time the cherry blossoms bloom.
The park also has playground equipment such as swings and slides for children, and next to the park is a campground with log cabins where you can stay overnight and campsites. At the campground, you may also be able to see fireflies from mid-July to mid-August.
