Sagiridai Observatory
Be moved by grand views, seasonal beauty, and the magical sight of morning mist.
This observation deck is built at the foot of Mt. Yufu, formed by two peaks to the east and west, along Prefectural Route 11, a well-known scenic drive. From an elevation of Approx. 680 m, you can take in a panoramic view of the Yufuin townscape.
Beyond the grandeur of the sweeping views, the beauty of the surrounding natural landscape is also well worth seeing. It charms visitors in every season: spring and summer bring fresh green leaves and birdsong, autumn glows with golden pampas grass swaying in the wind, and winter sparkles under steadily fallen snow. Especially in the early morning during seasons when temperatures drop to near freezing, thick fog can blanket the basin in a magical scene that’s well worth waking up early for. And on clear days, it’s an ideal spot to capture your best shots of the morning glow or sunset.
There is a nearby bus stop, but service is very limited, so visiting by rental car or taxi is recommended.
