Ishibashi Cultural Center
A cultural hub loved as a place for locals to unwind, where you can also enjoy beautiful scenery in every season.
A cultural complex in Kurume, Fukuoka, donated in 1956 by Shojiro Ishibashi, founder of the tire maker Bridgestone. Flowers bloom across its vast grounds in every season, making it a favorite place for locals to relax.
In spring, 150 cherry trees and 13,000 tulips come into bloom, while in fall, 100 maple trees turn red and yellow, adding color throughout the park. At night, the strolling-style Japanese garden designed by Shojiro Ishibashi is also illuminated, creating a magical scene.
Especially popular is the rose garden, with 400 varieties and 2,600 plants. There are four rose gardens, including a French-style garden with 18 varieties and a richly scented area, with peak viewing twice a year in spring and fall. With its soft fragrance and elegant beauty, it captivates visitors.
Events are also held in spring and fall, with stalls selling sweets and food. At the cafe & gallery shop “Rakusuitei,” overlooking the Japanese garden, you can enjoy original cakes and lunch made with seasonal ingredients. With breaks for coffee and a meal, you can take your time exploring the grounds.
It also includes a museum, library, and music hall, serving as a cultural hub for the city.
