During the late Edo period, the Fukuyama family held the highest status among samurai families residing in the Shibushi Fumoto district. Their legacy endures through the beautifully preserved Fukuyama Family Garden, one of the historic samurai gardens collectively recognized as a nationally designated scenic site, known as the Shibushi Fumoto Gardens.

In front of the main residence stretches an elegant dry landscape garden (karesansui) surrounding an artificial hill (tsukiyama), adorned seasonally with azaleas, maples, and podocarp trees. The garden skillfully integrates the distant mountains near Homanji Temple as borrowed scenery, creating a harmonious union with nature. The main house underwent extensive restoration from 2017 to March 2024, carefully reconstructed based on historical photographs and records. It reopened to the public in July 2024, faithfully restored to its original splendor.

The grounds also feature additional historic structures, including traditional storehouses, offering glimpses into samurai lifestyles. Visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences of Shihan-mato, a traditional seated archery game enjoyed by samurai during the Sengoku period, suitable for children and elderly alike. The garden's lush spring greenery and autumn colors further enhance its appeal, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history and natural beauty of Shibushi’s samurai heritage.

    石頭、苔蘚、松樹,每一處都像日劇裡會出現的場景,庭園整理得非常乾淨,細節處也看得出主人家的用心。
