Kanasteel Mitara Muroran (Hakucho bridge Memorial museum)
Enjoy classic Muroran cuisine in a prime location overlooking the Hakucho Bridge.
Opened alongside the completion of Hakucho Bridge, the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan, this facility serves as a hub packed with local charm. Inside, visitors will find exhibits showcasing the bridge’s construction process, restaurants where they can enjoy Muroran specialties, and a gift shop offering local products. The observation deck also provides stunning views-not only of Hakucho Bridge, but also Daikoku Island, Mount Yotei, Mount Usu, and Mount Showa-Shinzan.
A 2019 renovation brought major updates, adding the restaurant Kujira Shokudō and the café Tetsu no Machi Coffee to the existing snack corner. Guests can now savor a full range of Muroran flavors, including Muroran yakitori, Muroran curry ramen, and Uzuran soft-serve ice cream. The revamped gift shop has been greatly expanded as well, offering an even wider selection of souvenirs.
On the second floor, the exhibition room displays valuable documents and scale models chronicling the bridge’s design and construction-an engaging way to learn about its history and engineering. The facility is also conveniently located near attractions such as the Muroran Minpō Everyone’s Aquarium and the Muroran Onsen Yurara, making it an easy stop during local sightseeing.
