ROCKSIDE MARKET
A comfortable cafe and local product shop attached to the Oya History Museum.
Oya Town in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture, is known as the source of Oya stone, long used as a building material. Attached to the Oya History Museum, a one-of-a-kind, mysterious space set in a former Oya stone quarry, this cafe and local product shop is a popular place to stop by after touring the museum’s underground tunnels for a meal break or souvenir shopping.
With its traditional-style exterior and tiled roof, the building has a welcoming feel, while the interior features stylish decor. On the first floor, you’ll find local Tochigi souvenirs, original goods made with Oya stone, everyday items, and works by local artists.
The second floor, set in an open atrium space, has an eat-in area with a full lineup of seasonal lunch dishes, including omelet rice made with Nasu Goyo Ran, a local brand of eggs. You can also enjoy specialty coffee from “ISLAND STONE COFFEE ROASTERS” and sweets such as their popular gelato.
