Hachikura

A relaxing moment with a delightful cup of coffee paired with a delicious pastries

Cafe

Hachikura is a cafe located near the west gate of Banna-ji, a temple designated constructed in the Kamakura period (between 1192-1333) that has been designated as a national treasure.
Based on the concept, "Good things you can use, delicious food you can eat", the cafe is founded and run by its Ashikaga-born owner and his wife. They offer top quality coffee and homemade meals and pastries.

Upon climbing up the steps of the yellow, retro-looking building and opening the sliding door, you will be greeted by the mellow aroma of coffee and and the welcoming warm wooden cafe space. It’s a homey cafe with just ten seats (counter seats and table seats) with additional seating at the gallery and event space corner. Beyond the windows is the calm and quiet atmosphere of Banna-ji, the ancient temple that's also an icon of Ashikaga. The scenery changes with seasons—new green leaves in the summer or autumn leaves—and visitors can enjoy nature's beauty at any time of the year.

There are always 10-12 types of carefully selected coffee on the menu. Each cuppa joe prepared by the owner who trained at HORIGUCHI CAFE, a cafe based in Setagaya in Tokyo, provides a blissful experience that brings the best out of the selected beans. On top of being a specialty coffee shop, the cafe also serves lunch and pastries. All the tarts and cakes made using generous amounts of seasonal ingredients are homemade. The light snacks served here, such as the Napolitan spaghetti and cheese toast are also popular and attracts many regular customers. In addition to coffee beans, the owners also sell the coffee tools, utensils, and miscellaneous goods that they actually use and consider to be really good.
