Futatsugame Beach

This beach sits right in front of Futatsugame, a scenic spot in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture. With the cliffs of Futatsugame, known for their shape resembling two turtles snuggling together, as a backdrop, you can enjoy swimming in crystal-clear waters. The water here is said to be the clearest on Sado and has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Swimming Beaches. It has also received a high two-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide Japon.

The beach is equipped with restrooms, separate changing rooms for men and women, and shower rooms. There are no shops on the beach, but the nearby SADO Futatsugame View Hotel sells drinks from vending machines, bread, and ice cream. During the swimming season, lifeguards are on duty from 10:00am to 5:00pm, so families with children can enjoy the beach with peace of mind. To reach the beach, you need to go down 355 steps from the parking lot, so it’s best to keep your belongings compact. There is space for Approx. 30 cars, and parking is free. If using public transportation, get off at the Futatsugame bus stop and walk for Approx. 10 minutes.
