The Zao Ropeway is a scenic cable car system located in Yamagata City's Zao Onsen, one of Japan’s oldest and most celebrated hot spring resorts, known for its abundant hot water and highly acidic sulfur springs.

Rides are split into two sections: the Sanroku Line, connecting Zao-Sanroku Station at the foot of the mountain with Juhyo-Kogen Station in approximately 7 minutes, and the Sanchō Line, which continues from Juhyo-Kogen Station to Jizo-Sancho Station at the summit in about 10 minutes, comfortably ascending to an elevation of 1,661 meters.

The Sanchō Line features the advanced "Funitel" gondola system, known for minimal swaying and exceptional stability. Equipped with advanced barrier-free facilities, the gondola ensures a safe, comfortable experience for wheelchair users and elderly visitors, offering unobstructed, 360-degree panoramic views from seated positions.

In summer, the ropeway hosts a special "Summer Night Cruising" event, allowing visitors to leisurely glide through the cool night air, taking in spectacular starry skies and stunning nightscape views—an unforgettable experience.

At the summit's Jizo-Sancho Station, visitors can enjoy a meal at a restaurant boasting breathtaking views over a sea of clouds. With captivating natural beauty through all four seasons, the ropeway serves as a perfect gateway for memorable aerial sightseeing adventures on Mount Zao.
