As Iwate’s aerial gateway, this mid-sized airport operates regular domestic flights to Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Fukuoka. Internationally, two weekly flights run to Taipei (as of July 2025, the Shanghai route remains suspended).

A stop inside the airport will reveal a wide menu of local specialties and regional bites in the many shops and restaurants. The restaurant Iwate Hanamaki Daishokudō is especially popular for dishes featuring regional ingredients such as Iwate’s branded pork (Platinum Pork) and Iwate Shorthorn beef. In the international departure lounge, a duty-free shop sells sweets, tobacco, liquor, and more.

Travelers on the go will love to know there’s fully-loaded Wi-Fi on the premises plus family-friendly services including stroller rentals and kids’ play area. Major facility signage is multilingual, displayed in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean to accommodate inbound travelers. Adding to its unique charm, the airport plays Yumi Matsutoya’s song “Midori no Machi ni Maiorite” as background music, and a plaque featuring her handwritten lyrics is installed in the departure lobby.
