Monkey D. Luffy Statue
The Straw Hat Pirates stand proudly as a symbol of hope and recovery.
With over 500 million copies in circulation worldwide as of 2020, ONE PIECE has become one of Japan’s most iconic manga series.
To support recovery from the Kumamoto earthquakes, Kumamoto Prefecture teamed up with Kumamoto-born manga creator Eiichiro Oda on the ONE PIECE Kumamoto Recovery Project. As part of the initiative, bronze statues of the Straw Hat Pirates were installed across the prefecture.
Starting with the “Monkey D. Luffy” statue on the Kumamoto Prefectural Government Promenade, you’ll also find the “Usopp” statue in Aso City, the “Franky” statue in Takamori Town, the “Sanji” statue in Mashiki Town, and more,10 statues in total across nine cities and towns in Kumamoto. Take memorable photos with the Straw Hat Pirates as they cheer on the region’s recovery.
When touring the Straw Hat Pirates statues, download the Kumamoto Earthquake Memorial app “IKOU” for smooth route searches.
