Chikuho Electric Railroad

A railway line running between Kurosaki-Ekimae and Chikuho-Nogata, passing through residential neighborhoods, rural landscapes, and lively student areas along the way.

Last update :

The Chikuho Electric Railroad is a 16.0 km railway line running from Kurosaki-Ekimae in Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu City, toward Nakama and Nogata cities. Opened in 1951, it serves 21 stations and is affectionately known as “Chikutetsu.”

Connecting Kurosaki-Ekimae and Chikuho-Nogata, the line passes through a variety of landscapes, including residential neighborhoods, rural scenery, and student districts. As it links areas with strong commuter and student demand, it has become an essential mode of transportation supporting everyday life in the region.

Passengers board from designated positions on the platform and exit through the front door. Fares are paid when getting off; those paying in cash take a numbered ticket upon boarding. Money can be changed while the train is stopped at stations, but large-denomination bills are not accepted, so caution is advised.

In January 2025, a new digital pass-the “Chikutetsu 24-Hour Free Pass”-was introduced. Valid for 24 hours, it allows unlimited rides within that period, making it especially convenient for sightseeing and exploring towns along the line.
