Muigaa Cliff stands along the shoreline of Nanamata Coast, a fault coast of uplifted coral reef rising 30 m high. With untouched nature and little tourist development, it is also known as a hidden scenic spot.
This massive cliff drops sharply to the sea from a height of Approx. 100 m, and the observatory offers a breathtaking view stretching all the way across the Pacific Ocean. The color of the sea also changes depending on the weather and time of day. In the daytime, you can enjoy a blue and green gradient, while at sunset, the scenery turns into a dreamy display of orange and purple.

Humpback whales and other whales that migrate through the waters around Miyakojima in winter can sometimes be seen here, which is why it is also known as “the hill where you can see whales.” Especially from January to March, if you're lucky, you may be able to spot whales through a telephoto lens.

At the base of the cliff is a spring called Muigaa, which was reportedly used as daily water before water and sewer systems were developed. The surrounding area also preserves many valuable ruins believed to have been living spaces for people who crossed over to the island.
