Marine Day Nagoya Minato Festival

A beloved summer tradition that fills Nagoya Port with excitement for a whole day.

Last update :

A major summer event held every year on Marine Day, the third Monday of July, around Nagoya Port and the Nagoya Port Garden Pier area. It began in 1946 with hopes for postwar recovery and the development of Nagoya Port, and is a historic traditional event with Approx. 80 years of history.

The main event is the fireworks display that marks the festival’s grand finale. Around 3,000 fireworks, including dazzling starmines and powerful rapid launches of large shells, light up the night sky and waters of Nagoya Port in brilliant color.

*In 2026, the fireworks display and some other events are scheduled to be canceled due to the Asian Games.

Other highlights include a marching band by local junior high and high school students, Japanese taiko drum performances by groups active in Aichi Prefecture, and concerts by a jazz orchestra on a special stage at Garden Pier. A lively parade by the Sea Cadets and marching bands, blending energetic performances and music, also adds to the festive atmosphere. Floats modeled after yakatabune pleasure boats and other harbor-town-style floats are also among the highlights.
