There are over 260 islands in Miyagi Prefecture’s Matsushima!
From being sung about in songs or depicted in art for many years past, it is a place that has become known around the world.
One of Japan’s three famous scenic views, even the renowned Basho Matsuo (a haiku poet of the Edo period) is said to have dearly loved the views of Matsushima.

Boat tours of Matsushima, where you can enjoy the views of the islands over the 50-minute voyages, are becoming very popular.
While you may think of boat tours as a pricey attraction, Matsushima’s island tours are a very reasonable 1500 yen for adults. As part of the tour you can visit Niōjima, Kaneshima, Senganjima, Ojima, Futagojima, and more, so why not give it a try?

There are four locations where you can buy tickets for the boat tours near the docks, but the closest place to the docks for tickets is the “Matsushima Tourist Association.” From there, once you have bought your ticket you can go straight to the boarding area.
