In the museum, approximately 200 life-size wax figures are used to portray 25 scenes from the life of Masamune Date, the first lord of the feudal domain. A 1945 investigation revealed the remains of lord Masamune's mausoleum "Zuihoden," which had been destroyed by fire in an air raid during World War II. Based on these remains, the face of Lord Masamune has been reconstructed, and his voice has been reproduced by computer.

The "Armor dressing experience" (advance reservation and additional fee required) that you can try on the "Kurourushi Gomaidousoku (black lacquer five-piece body armor)" of Lord Masamune, made by a craftsman who has created replicas of armor for TV dramas and movies, is also popular. The experience of painting koma (spinning tops) and kokeshi dolls (separate fee required) is also popular as a memorable activity.

A variety of local delicacies are available at the adjoining "Matsushima Oyster House MATSU," including grilled oysters, beef tongue, oysters and scallops caught in Sanriku, and other specialties that are unique to Miyagi Prefecture. "Date Café," a coffee shop where you can enjoy Zunda-mochi and parfaits, is also a great place to take a break while strolling around Matsushima.
