Osaka, Koinobori Festa 1000
Children Delight at the Wondrous Sight of a Thousand Koinobori (Carp Streamers) Swimming Over the Akuta River!
In the Koinobori Festa, around 1000 carp-shaped streamers are hung as wishes for children’s health and for protection of the Akuta River, a symbol of Takatsuki City.
A huge number of colorful carp streamers “swim” in the sky as they hang from ropes strung across the Akuta River.
The streamers used in this festival are donated by local residents or handmade by the children at local kindergartens.
In addition, a variety of stage events, including performances by the Takatsuki City Fire Brigade and brass band concerts by local junior high schools, are held on April 29th (Showa Day).
Another must-see event is the Takatsuki Taiko drum performance!
There will also be plenty of food stalls set up for the event, so don’t miss it!
※Events on April 29th will be held from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Cancellations may occur due to weather conditions, river conditions, and other factors.
What is Koinobori (Carp Streamers)?
Koinobori is a traditional Japanese event held on May 5th to pray for health and eventual career success for boys.
The wish connected with this event is for children to grow up well, healthy and strong, like carp that swim their way up waterfalls.
