Okinawa Ao no Dokutsu “Blue Cave” (Cape Maeda)
Enjoy the Beautiful and Glistening Blue Scenery at This Popular Diving Spot!
Cape Maeda is located in Onna, a village on the northern part of Okinawa’s main island.
The cave beneath the cliff that faces the sea is known as “Ao no Dokutsu,” or “Blue Cave,” because the sunlight shining tzhrough it lights it up in shades of blue. It is one of the most popular diving and snorkeling spots on Okinawa’s main island.
The sight of the sapphire-blue surface of the water as it glistens is absolutely stunning.
Even if you don’t plan on swimming, the visit is worth it even just for the view of the ocean from the observation deck. We also recommend visiting during the evening, as the area is also famous for its stunning sunset views. The beautiful scenery lends the area very well to use as a location for filming movies and commercials.
